This is a nice piece of work! I played it for quite a while, and the recitation of Qur'an in the beginning was a surprise(I'm a muslim too, bro ;) ). I love this game. Btw, i'm interested in the way you generate the game world. It took just a very short duration to generate the whole map i guess. I am a godot user too. May I know how you generate the map? Or what kind of alfogoritm did you use? Here's my email in case you don't want to talk about it here :p

May peace be upon you :)

Salams, glad to hear you liked it! The game is open-source, so you can find the code on GitHub: https://github.com/deengames/eman-quest

The "TL;DR" version of the generation is that it's two stages: the first stage is to pick a bunch of random rooms on a grid (I think 9x9) and make sure they're connected. The second stage is to generate each room, as expected. (eg. the forest is a bunch of random points connected on a path, with some clearings; the castles are random interconnected rooms; and the caves are just a lot of random walk.)

If you're interested in discussing further, asking more questions, or just hanging out, you can find me on Discord quite often: https://discord.gg/frKXYtG

thank you very much! I got the idea. I'm interested because i'm currently struggling with my map generator. I tried to generate 100 rooms, each room is 25 x 25 tiles area. It works but it took a while to generate everything.

And about the discord, i will join it soon. But maybe I can't be online that often. Thanks for sharing ;)

Such a fun game! I really liked the story and the art style is so wonderful. The combat system is something I've never seen before and it is such a nice touch to the game. When I enter the River Cave map and kill the first enemy, the game always crashes... Would love to play more but I can't get around the enemy in any way (I played on a Mac). Other than that the game ran smoothly and I had a very enjoyable experience :D

I don't know if you've heard of Game Development World Championship before (gdwc2019) but it's a competition for indie game developers where they can submit their games and it's free! It's great if you want some more visibility for the game and it only takes a couple of minutes to join :)

Glad you enjoyed the little of the game you saw. Yeah, it's on my list of things to do (to submit to GDWC). Just have to fix all the crash bugs first.

Speaking of crash bugs, can you please:

  • Confirm which version of the game you ran (1.0.4?)
  • Look on your system for an EmanQuest.log file and post the contents when you find it?

I thought I fixed the crash with the latest release ... but it seems like there's still something crashing.

That sounds great! I did run the 1.0.4 version. I tried to play it once more after I posted my comment (I downloaded the game again) and I got past the enemy and was able to continue playing.

Can you add function which if some user hasnt installed or his gpu unsupport opengl 3.1 to throw to opengl2.1?

Ah, it doesn't work for you with OpenGL 3.1? Sadly, one of my development machines befell the same fate.

It's quite a bit of work, but yes, I will prioritize getting this done in the next release. Does your machine support OpenGL ES 2.0?

My GPU only support OpenGL 2.1

You can do support for OpenGL es 2 in projects settings.I am too using Godot engine.

Oh cool, another Godot user! :D

Eman Quest uses Godot 3.0.6. Upgrading is not (that) simple, because it breaks a bunch of things - things I did badly (like mixing static/instance methods, naming functions "get" and "set," using reflection, and a few other things).

I'm working through all the changes now. If you can sit tight for a few days, I should have a new build out.

Thanks and I have linux. For 2D games is graphics still  same if you use opengl es 2.0 .

Cool, thanks. Can you try Eman Quest v1.0.5 (just published)? It should work for you. It's compatible with OpenGL 3.1. and OpenGL ES 2.0 from what I understand.

Hey there,

The combat system is pretty cool. Think it's the first time I saw one like that. I will explore it more.

All the best!

@SolarPhasing

Thanks, glad you liked it! I thought "memory mechanics" are a niche thing, but it looks like - with enough iteration - it can actually be something fun that a lot of people enjoy!

Just got the game. Love the memory style battles! It crashed on me after the first battle for some reason, but I was able to reload the game. Very cool!

Can you but a beta of the mac version with debugging and folks could help test?

Sorry to hear it crashed - it shouldn't. Sure, I can send you a custom OSX build with debugging enabled. Are you on my Discord server? I can DM you the link once I build it.
